Aramaic [from Greek Aramaios] is a group of Semitic languages as old as 2,000 BCE. Jesus Christ apparently spoke a Gallilean dialect of Old Aramaic, related to Hebrew.

Modern forms of Aramaic are still spoken by Jews, Christians and Mandeans in West Asia.
